The years it covers
This is the Pluto sign of children being born now. Pluto first crossed into Aquarius on 23 March 2023 and stayed until 11 June 2023, returned from 21 January to 1 September 2024, and has been there continuously since 19 November 2024. It is still in Aquarius at the last date our facts table covers.
Its orbit is so stretched that it spends anywhere from about twelve to about thirty years in one sign, and it needs about 248 years to go round the whole zodiac. That is why, among everyone born between 1925 and 2025, only 1.9% have this placement: it began at the very end of that span. Yet every baby born this year shares it, so the figure says more about the calendar than about how unusual these children are.
The backdrop these children arrive into
Pluto's sign describes the setting of a generation's early years, and we read it only as a setting. In the tradition's language, Pluto in Aquarius brings pressure to bear on collective life: on how communities and networks are organised, on who is inside a group and who is left out, and on the balance between one person's freedom and what people owe one another. Questions about shared ideals, and about which new ways of living together hold and which do not, gather weight under this placement.
That is the backdrop. It is not a description of the children born into it, and it holds no forecast of what they will think or do. A backdrop can be met in as many ways as there are people meeting it: closely, at an angle, or hardly at all.
How it can show in one chart
When Pluto is emphasised in an individual chart, astrologers read Pluto in Aquarius as depth attached to belonging and independence. Friendships and the groups a person belongs to may carry unusual weight, so that a falling-out with a circle feels like more than a disagreement. The tradition also links it with strong feeling about fairness, a need to remain one's own person inside a group, and an interest in how systems work and whom they serve.
If you are a parent looking at your baby's chart, these are leanings the chart describes, not traits to watch for or expect. A newborn's chart is a map of potentials. Character forms in a life lived among particular people, in a particular place.
House and contacts: where it becomes personal
Every child born in the same stretch of years shares Pluto's sign, so the sign alone cannot describe one of them. Its house shows where the theme gathers: in the eleventh house, Aquarius's natural house, in friendships and groups; in the first, in the way a person meets the world; in the fourth, in home and the family circle. Contacts with personal planets decide how audible Pluto is. Close to the Moon, it tends to deepen feeling and keep it private. Close to the Ascendant, the point that sets the rising sign, it can lend presence and intensity to a first impression. A baby born in late January or February may also have the Sun in Aquarius, sometimes right beside Pluto, which gives the sign's themes more personal weight. For all of this the chart needs the date, time and place of birth.
Belonging and independence
Aquarius values the group and the individual at once, and Pluto intensifies both. The tension the tradition describes runs between belonging and autonomy, between loyalty to a circle and the wish to stand apart from it, and between an ideal and the people who fall short of it. Held rigidly, a conviction can turn cold towards the very people it was meant to serve.
The strength it describes lies in the same place: a capacity to care about people well beyond one's own circle, to see how a shared arrangement could work better, and to stay loyal to fairness when it is inconvenient.
Next to the other Pluto signs
Pluto in Capricorn, just before it, pressed on institutions and authority; Aquarius moves the pressure from the structures above people to the networks between them. Pluto in Libra, the last air-sign Pluto before this one, concerned fairness between two people, and Aquarius widens that concern to the group. Across the zodiac lies Pluto in Leo, the sign of the individual heart and self-expression, which Pluto passed through in the middle of the last century; Leo and Aquarius form one axis, the self and the many.
